My Ubuntu fresh install Guide (14.04)

for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS – Trusty Tahr

 Graphics Driver

If Ubuntu keeps crashing for no reason:

Go to “Additional Drivers” and change from “X.Org X server” to the newest NVIDIA driver (flagged tested if possible)

Ubuntu Settings

  1. System Settings > Brightness and Lock > ‘Lock off’ and uncheck ‘Require my password…’
  2. Appearance > Look > Launcher icon size : 36
  3. Displays > uncheck ‘Mirror displays’
  4. Language Support > Portuguese

  2. add TeamViewer to Startup Applications with the command: /opt/teamviewer8/tv_bin/teamviewerd

Printer (HP J4580)

Go to HP Linux Imaging and Printing and download HPLIP.

$ sh hplip-X.XX.X.run

and follow the installation process.

To re configure printer settings:

$ hp-setup

Dconf-Tools

systray white list: com > canonical > unity-gtk-module

To know the name of an application:

xprop | grep CLASS

and then, click on the application

Nautilus

Do not show hidden files:

$ dconf-editor > org>gtk>settings>file-chooser>uncheck show-hidden

Remove Guest Account

sudo gedit /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf
add a line with: allow-guest=false

Ubuntu Tweak

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Tweaks>Workspace>2×2
